Which Nintendo console was among Rayman 2's original 1999 platforms?

The story behind the answer

Nintendo 64 was among Rayman 2: The Great Escape’s original 1999 platforms. The game was released as a 3D platformer for Nintendo 64, Windows, Dreamcast, and PlayStation-related plans and versions across its broader release history.

Rayman 2 began as a proposed 2D sequel, but development shifted toward 3D as games such as Super Mario 64 demonstrated the possibilities of the format. The Nintendo 64 became especially important during production: the project’s lead platform changed from PC to Nintendo’s console, influencing technical decisions such as texture quality and audio presentation.

The Nintendo 64 version first appeared in Europe on October 29, 1999, followed by North America on November 9. Because the system used cartridges rather than CDs, its soundtrack was sequenced instead of using the fuller Red Book audio found on some other versions. The Expansion Pak could also improve the game’s display resolution.

Nintendo DS, GameCube, and Wii were not original 1999 platforms for Rayman 2. A later Nintendo DS port, Rayman DS, arrived in 2005 and was based on the Nintendo 64 version.
