Hull City had the best goal difference among the newly promoted clubs in the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
Hull City beat Manchester United 2–0, giving them a goal difference of plus two. Ipswich Town also won, but their 2–1 victory over Sunderland produced a goal difference of plus one. Coventry City lost 3–0 to Arsenal and therefore had a negative goal difference.
The comparison matters because the three promoted clubs all appeared in the opening round. Looking only at points would show Hull and Ipswich level on three points, but goal difference separates them in the league table when points are equal.
Hull’s result was therefore the strongest promoted-club opening performance by margin. It combined a victory, two goals scored and a clean sheet against Manchester United at the MKM Stadium.
