Hull’s victory was especially notable because it came against Manchester United, one of England’s most famous clubs. The Tigers earned three points and kept a clean sheet in their return to the Premier League.
Hull were not the only promoted side to win in the opening round. Ipswich Town beat Sunderland 2–1, while Coventry City lost 3–0 to Arsenal in the season opener.
