Answer
Andy Cole
Which Newcastle striker scored 34 Premier League goals in 1993–94? Andy Cole scored 34 for Newcastle United.
It was Newcastle’s first Premier League season after winning promotion from the old Second Division in 1992–93. Cole, signed from Bristol City in February 1993, formed a prolific partnership with Peter Beardsley under manager Kevin Keegan and helped Newcastle finish third.
Cole scored his first top-flight Newcastle goal against defending champions Manchester United at Old Trafford on 21 August 1993. He also scored hat-tricks against Liverpool and Coventry City during the campaign. His 34 goals made him the league’s leading scorer and, at the time, a record for a 42-match Premier League season.
The number is sometimes confused with Alan Shearer’s 34-goal total for Blackburn Rovers in 1994–95. Cole’s 34 came in 40 league appearances, while his total in all competitions for Newcastle that season was 41.
