Which New York skyscraper was formerly known as the RCA Building?
Answer
30 Rockefeller Plaza
Answer
30 Rockefeller Plaza
30 Rockefeller Plaza was formerly known as the RCA Building.
The skyscraper stands at the center of Rockefeller Center in Midtown Manhattan. It was completed in 1933 as the headquarters of the Radio Corporation of America, whose initials gave the building its original name. NBC, an RCA subsidiary, became a major long-term occupant, linking the tower closely with American broadcasting history.
The building was renamed 30 Rockefeller Plaza after its street address. It is also widely known as 30 Rock, a name later used by NBC’s television comedy series. Its Art Deco design was created primarily by Raymond Hood, with Associated Architects overseeing Rockefeller Center’s broader plan.
The tower is often confused with the GE Building, a later corporate name used from 1988 to 2015. Today, it is officially named 30 Rockefeller Plaza and houses NBC Studios, offices, and the Top of the Rock observation deck.
