Which new female character is playable in Rayman Legends?

Barbara is the new female character playable in Rayman Legends. She is introduced as Barbara the Barbarian Princess and becomes available after players rescue her from certain stages.

Rayman Legends continues the platforming style of Rayman Origins while expanding its playable cast. Rayman, Globox and the Teensies return, and Barbara adds a new warrior character with her own animated identity. Her sisters and cousins can also become playable as they are rescued.

Barbara is sometimes confused with Betilla, Betina or Ly, because those names belong to other female characters associated with the wider Rayman universe. Barbara’s introduction is specific to Rayman Legends’ playable roster, making her the canonical answer to this question.
