Michael Kamen arranged the orchestral parts for “Nothing Else Matters” on Metallica's 1991 album Metallica.
The song is notable for its intimate opening and its orchestral expansion near the end. Kamen provided the arrangement, while the London Symphony Orchestra performed the orchestral parts. His work helped transform the ballad from a largely acoustic composition into one of the album's most expansive recordings.
Kirk Hammett does not play on the studio recording of “Nothing Else Matters,” although he appears in the music video and performs the song live. The track became one of Metallica's most successful singles and reached number six in both the United Kingdom and Ireland.
