Schilthorn is the Swiss mountain home of the Piz Gloria restaurant seen in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
The revolving summit restaurant sits on the Schilthorn above Mürren in the Bernese Alps. The location appears as Blofeld’s Alpine research institute in the 1969 James Bond film, where Bond infiltrates the villain’s facility while posing as Sir Hilary Bray.
Filming at the site helped make the unfinished restaurant internationally famous. The production contributed financially to completing the building, and the attraction later embraced its Bond connection through exhibitions and themed displays.
The Schilthorn is sometimes confused with the Matterhorn, Switzerland’s best-known peak, but the two mountains are different. Piz Gloria is a restaurant and filming location on the Schilthorn, not a name for the entire mountain.
