Kate Moss starred opposite Mark Wahlberg in Calvin Klein’s 1992 underwear campaign.
Photographed by Herb Ritts, the campaign used stark black-and-white imagery and helped establish Moss as a major fashion figure. The advertisements became especially influential because their spare styling and youthful aesthetic contrasted with the glamorous, highly polished supermodel image associated with much of the late 1980s.
The campaign is sometimes dated to 1993 because Moss’s Calvin Klein visibility continued into that period and because later campaigns are grouped with the original images. The widely cited pairing with Mark Wahlberg belongs to the early-1990s Calvin Klein advertising campaign.
Moss later became strongly associated with the “heroin chic” aesthetic, although her career covered many different styles and commercial partnerships. She remained a major editorial and advertising presence for decades.
