Which mission carried Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the Moon in 1969?

The story behind the answer

Apollo 11 carried Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the Moon in 1969.

NASA launched Apollo 11 from Kennedy Space Center on 16 July 1969. The crew consisted of commander Neil Armstrong, lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin, and command module pilot Michael Collins. Armstrong and Aldrin landed in the lunar module Eagle, while Collins remained in lunar orbit in Columbia.

Armstrong became the first person to step onto the lunar surface on 20 July 1969, followed shortly afterward by Aldrin. The astronauts spent about 21 hours and 36 minutes on the Moon and collected lunar rocks and soil for scientific study.

Apollo 8 had previously carried humans around the Moon without landing. Apollo 12 made the second crewed lunar landing later in 1969, while Gemini 8 was an earlier Earth-orbit mission known for achieving the first docking in space.
