Microsoft gaming executive Matt Booty explained the decision to bring Halo to PlayStation.
Halo: Campaign Evolved was announced for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5, ending the series’ long-standing association with Xbox and Windows exclusivity. Booty, Microsoft’s gaming content and studios leader, explained the strategy in terms of reaching players wherever they play rather than treating another console maker as the only meaningful form of competition.
That decision made Campaign Evolved historically unusual within the franchise. The original Halo: Combat Evolved launched on the first Xbox in 2001, and subsequent mainline entries were closely tied to Xbox hardware, even when PC versions later broadened access. The remake therefore serves both as a return to Halo’s beginning and as an introduction for PlayStation players.
Phil Spencer is an easy distractor because he is strongly associated with Xbox’s multiplatform strategy. Peter Moore and Don Mattrick also held senior Xbox roles, but the explanation tied specifically to bringing Halo to PlayStation was attributed to Matt Booty.
