Which Microsoft Gaming CEO teased Halo's 2026 return at the Xbox Games Showcase?

The story behind the answer

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer teased Halo’s 2026 return at the Xbox Games Showcase.

During the June 2025 showcase, Spencer discussed Xbox’s 25th anniversary plans for 2026. He named a new Fable, the next Forza, Gears of War: E-Day, and the return of a classic franchise that had been with Xbox from the beginning. Although he did not initially give the project its final public title, the reference was widely understood as a tease for Halo’s return.

The later announcement identified that project as Halo: Campaign Evolved, a ground-up remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign. It was announced for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5, making the news significant both as a Halo revival and as the franchise’s first release on a Sony console.

The main trap is the wording: Spencer teased the return rather than announcing every detail of the game during that showcase. Reggie Fils-Aimé and Shawn Layden were former Nintendo and PlayStation executives, while Satya Nadella is Microsoft’s chief executive, not its gaming chief.
