Which Metallica music video was the first of six directed by Wayne Isham?
Answer
Enter Sandman
“Enter Sandman” was the first Metallica music video directed by Wayne Isham.
The video was recorded in Los Angeles in June 1991 and premiered on July 30, 1991, two weeks before the album’s release. Its imagery combines the band performing with scenes of a child experiencing nightmares and an older man portrayed by actor R. G. Armstrong.
The visual directly reflects the song’s themes of sleep, fear, and childhood dreams. It became one of Metallica’s most recognizable videos and won Best Hard Rock Video at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards.
Isham went on to direct five more Metallica videos. The question can be confusing because several Black Album songs had prominent videos, but “Enter Sandman” was specifically the first Isham-directed Metallica video.
