Utnapishtim is the Mesopotamian flood hero warned by the god Ea in the Epic of Gilgamesh.
In the flood narrative embedded in the Standard Babylonian version of the Epic of Gilgamesh, Ea warns Utnapishtim that the gods intend to send a devastating flood. Utnapishtim builds a large boat, preserves life, and survives the catastrophe.
After the waters recede, he releases birds to find land, including a dove and a raven. The parallels with Noah's story include divine warning, a large vessel, preservation of life, birds, and a post-flood offering.
Utnapishtim is not the same character as Gilgamesh, the king who seeks him for knowledge about immortality. The flood account is also related to the older Atrahasis tradition, whose hero is called Atrahasis rather than Utnapishtim.
