Which Mercyful Fate debut album was released in 1983?
Answer
Melissa
Answer
Melissa
The Mercyful Fate debut album released in 1983 was Melissa.
Melissa was recorded in July 1983 at Easy Sound Studios in Copenhagen and released through Roadrunner Records on 30 October 1983. It was the first full-length studio album by the Danish band, following their self-titled 1982 EP.
The record combined British heavy-metal influence with occult imagery, twin-guitar writing, dramatic arrangements and King Diamond’s distinctive high-register vocals. Songs such as “Curse of the Pharaohs,” “Into the Coven” and the extended “Satan’s Fall” became central to the band’s early reputation.
Listeners sometimes confuse Melissa with Abigail, King Diamond’s first solo album, or Don’t Break the Oath, Mercyful Fate’s second album from 1984. Melissa also became highly influential on thrash, death and black metal musicians, including members of Metallica and Slayer.
