Which member of The Doors wrote the song 'Light My Fire'?
Answer
Robby Krieger
Answer
Robby Krieger
Robby Krieger wrote “Light My Fire,” the Doors’ breakthrough psychedelic-rock song. Although the recording credits all four Doors, Krieger originated the composition and brought its basic structure to the band in early 1966.
The song grew collaboratively. John Densmore suggested a Latin-influenced rhythm, Jim Morrison contributed lyrics including the second verse and “Try to set the night on fire,” and Ray Manzarek created the Bach-influenced keyboard introduction. This shared development explains why all four members received songwriting credit.
The Doors recorded the song in 1966 for their debut album, released in January 1967. Its extended album arrangement ran for more than seven minutes, while a heavily edited single version helped it reach a much wider radio audience. A common mix-up is attributing the song entirely to Morrison because he sang it, but Krieger was its principal composer.
