Which member of The Doors wrote the lyrics for "Touch Me"?

The story behind the answer

Robby Krieger wrote the lyrics for “Touch Me.” The Doors guitarist wrote the song in late 1968, and it became one of the band’s best-known recordings from their 1969 album The Soft Parade.

The song went through several working titles, including “I’m Gonna Love You” and “Hit Me.” The latter referred to blackjack, but Jim Morrison changed the opening lyric because he worried that audiences might mistake it as an invitation to attack him. The final version begins with the less confrontational “C’mon, c’mon, c’mon, c’mon, now.”

“Touch Me” was unusually ornate for the Doors, combining rock with brass, strings, and a jazz-influenced tenor-saxophone solo by Curtis Amy. The single reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the band’s last U.S. Top Ten hit. Although Morrison sang the lead vocal, songwriting credit belongs to Krieger.
