Joško Gvardiol scored Manchester City’s winning goal against Bournemouth in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
Gvardiol struck in the second minute of stoppage time at the Etihad Stadium, completing Manchester City’s comeback in a 2–1 victory. Bournemouth had taken the lead through Marcus Tavernier before City responded late.
Marc Guéhi equalised for Manchester City in the 84th minute. Gvardiol then scored the decisive goal shortly afterwards, turning a difficult opening match into a winning start for Enzo Maresca’s reign as City manager.
The winning goal is easy to confuse with Guéhi’s equaliser because both City defenders scored in the closing stages. Guéhi made it 1–1, while Gvardiol made it 2–1. Erling Haaland did not score in the opening weekend for the first time.
