Which Manchester City player assisted both goals in the 2–1 comeback against Bournemouth in the 2026–27 Premier League opener?

The story behind the answer

Rayan Cherki assisted both Manchester City goals in the 2–1 comeback against Bournemouth in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.

Manchester City fell behind to Marcus Tavernier at the Etihad Stadium on 23 August 2026. City then turned the match around late, with Marc Guéhi heading the equaliser and Joško Gvardiol scoring the stoppage-time winner.

Cherki came on shortly after the hour mark and created both goals. His corner supplied the assist for Guéhi’s header, while an intricate pass set up Gvardiol’s decisive strike.

The performance made Cherki one of the defining figures of the opening weekend, despite not starting the match. It also helped new City manager Enzo Maresca begin his reign with a comeback victory over Bournemouth.
