Marc Guéhi scored Manchester City’s late equaliser against Bournemouth on the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
Manchester City came from behind to beat Bournemouth 2–1 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 23 August 2026. Bournemouth took the lead through Marcus Tavernier, but Guéhi equalised with a header six minutes before the end of normal time.
Guéhi’s role was unusual because new manager Enzo Maresca selected him in central midfield rather than at centre-back. His goal therefore capped an unconventional tactical assignment with an important contribution.
Joško Gvardiol scored City’s winner in stoppage time. The comeback began Maresca’s Manchester City league reign with a victory and ended Bournemouth’s 18-match unbeaten Premier League run. It was also Bournemouth’s first defeat since selling Antoine Semenyo to City earlier in the year.
