Frank Lampard led Coventry City in their 3–0 defeat by Arsenal on the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
Lampard was listed as Coventry City’s manager for the 2026–27 season. His side began the campaign away to Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Friday 21 August 2026, in the league’s opening fixture.
The match was a high-profile challenge for Coventry because Arsenal were the defending champions. Coventry were one of three promoted clubs entering the Premier League that season, alongside Ipswich Town and Hull City.
Several managers from newly promoted or opening-weekend teams are easy to confuse. Sergej Jakirović managed Hull City, Gary O’Neil managed Ipswich Town, and Daniel Farke managed Leeds United. The Coventry appointment also linked the opening match to one of English football’s most recognisable former midfielders, who had previously managed Chelsea and Everton.
