Frank Lampard led Coventry City in their 2026–27 Premier League opener against Arsenal.
Lampard took charge of Coventry for their return to the Premier League and faced Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta in the season’s first match. The managerial meeting echoed the 2020 FA Cup final, when Arteta’s Arsenal defeated Lampard’s Chelsea.
Coventry’s promotion restored them to England’s top division after 25 years away. Their route back included a long period of instability, relegation to the fourth tier, administration, and spells without access to their former home ground.
Lampard’s side lost the opener 3–0, but the fixture itself represented a major milestone for the club. Coventry had previously played in the Premier League during the competition’s early years and were among its founding members in 1992.
