Sergej Jakirović became the first Bosnian manager to win a Premier League match in 2026–27 Matchweek 1.
Jakirović achieved the milestone when Hull City defeated Manchester United 2–0 at the MKM Stadium on 22 August 2026. The victory was Hull’s return to the Premier League and gave their new head coach an immediate landmark result.
The distinction belongs to Jakirović rather than to the managers of the other promoted clubs. Ipswich were led by Gary O’Neil, while Coventry were managed by Frank Lampard. The opening round also included several other notable managerial debuts, including Enzo Maresca at Manchester City and Xabi Alonso at Chelsea.
The record is about nationality and winning a Premier League match, not about being the first Bosnian manager appointed in England or the first Bosnian player to appear in the competition. Jakirović’s achievement came specifically through Hull’s opening-round victory.
