Methuen first published A. A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh in London in 1926.
Methuen had already published Milne’s earlier children’s work, including When We Were Very Young. The firm issued the British edition of Winnie-the-Pooh on 14 October 1926, with illustrations by E. H. Shepard.
International editions used different publishers. E. P. Dutton published the book in the United States, while McClelland & Stewart handled the Canadian edition. Those names can cause confusion when a question does not specify the country.
Methuen’s edition helped establish the book in Britain, where it quickly became a major literary and commercial success. The publisher’s role is distinct from Disney’s later licensing and adaptation work, which began decades afterward.
