Who wrote the first authorized posthumous sequel, Return to the Hundred Acre Wood?

The story behind the answer

David Benedictus wrote the first authorized posthumous sequel, Return to the Hundred Acre Wood.

Published in 2009, the book continued the literary Pooh tradition after A. A. Milne’s two original story collections. Mark Burgess provided illustrations designed in the style of E. H. Shepard’s classic artwork.

Benedictus was selected to create a new authorized continuation rather than a simple reprint or adaptation. The book introduced readers to further adventures while retaining the familiar characters and setting.

A common mix-up is naming Mark Burgess as the author. Burgess was the illustrator, whereas Benedictus wrote the text. A later authorized anthology, Winnie-the-Pooh: The Best Bear in All the World, appeared in 2016 and involved four different children’s authors.
