Adventurers was the LEGO theme launched in 1998 with explorers, dinosaurs, mummies and ancient ruins.
The original Adventurers storyline followed Johnny Thunder and his companions as they travelled through fictionalized versions of real-world locations. Sets combined vehicles, ancient monuments, traps and collectible artifacts, creating an adventure-story format unlike the everyday settings of LEGO Town.
The first wave drew heavily on classic pulp adventure imagery, including desert expeditions and Egyptian-style ruins. Later subthemes expanded the formula into jungle exploration, dinosaur hunting and other historical or archaeological settings.
Adventurers is sometimes confused with Orient Expedition, which was a later subtheme within the same broader adventure tradition. Pharaoh’s Quest, released in 2011, also used Egyptian imagery but was a separate theme. Adventurers is the name associated with the original 1998 launch and its Johnny Thunder-led stories.
