Space Police is the LEGO theme based on police forces pursuing villains in the classic LEGO Space setting.
The original Space Police subtheme launched in 1989. It introduced police-style spacecraft and minifigures who opposed the Blacktron criminals, creating a clearer story conflict than many earlier LEGO Space releases. The theme used distinctive black, red and trans-neon-green design elements and included prison or capture features in several sets.
Space Police is sometimes confused with LEGO’s broader Space theme, which began in 1978, or with later subthemes such as Space Police II and Space Police III. Those later releases reused the name but have different visual identities and story details.
The classic LEGO Space era is remembered for factions rather than a single continuous narrative. Sets such as Space Police 1 helped establish the idea that LEGO themes could provide recurring heroes, villains, vehicles and settings for imaginative play.
