LEGO Ninjago is the theme based on the ninja characters Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane and Lloyd.
LEGO launched Ninjago in 2011 as a story-driven theme combining ninja heroes, elemental powers, vehicles, dragons and fantasy villains. The characters are trained by the wise master Wu and defend Ninjago from recurring threats across television episodes, books, games and construction sets.
Each principal ninja is associated with a colour and elemental identity. Kai is linked with fire, Jay with lightning, Cole with earth, Zane with ice and Lloyd with energy. The cast and story have expanded over time, but these characters remain central to the franchise.
Ninjago is sometimes confused with LEGO Chima or LEGO Monkie Kid because all three are original fantasy themes. Ninjago is specifically the ninja-based universe that began in 2011.
