LEGO Studios introduced the first LEGO sets based on Marvel’s Spider-Man.
The LEGO Studios theme launched in 2000 as a filmmaking-oriented line. It combined buildable models with accessories such as a video camera, encouraging children to create and record their own movie scenes. In 2002, the line expanded into sets based on the Spider-Man film released that year.
These sets predated the later LEGO Marvel Super Heroes branding. That distinction matters because Spider-Man products are now most commonly associated with LEGO Marvel, which became the standard name for many later Marvel-based releases.
LEGO Studios also included sets connected to other movie properties and original filmmaking scenarios. Its significance was not only licensing: it promoted storytelling and amateur filmmaking as part of the play experience. The Spider-Man sets are therefore linked to the earlier Studios theme rather than to the later dedicated Marvel branding.
