LEGO DUPLO is the LEGO product line that uses oversized bricks designed for preschool children.
DUPLO elements are larger than standard LEGO bricks, making them easier for young children to handle and reducing the risk of swallowing small pieces. Despite their larger size, many DUPLO bricks can connect with standard LEGO bricks, allowing families to combine some elements as children grow.
The product line was introduced in 1969 and was originally marketed for very young builders. Its sets commonly feature simple vehicles, animals, buildings and familiar everyday situations. The large scale supports basic construction, storytelling and early motor-skill development.
DUPLO is sometimes confused with LEGO Juniors, which used more conventional LEGO-sized parts and was intended as a transition for children who were not yet ready for complex standard sets. DUPLO’s defining feature is its oversized brick format and preschool focus.
