Which large eunuch bodyguard of Daenerys was omitted from Game of Thrones?
Answer
Strong Belwas
Answer
Strong Belwas
Strong Belwas was Daenerys Targaryen’s large eunuch bodyguard and champion in the books, but he was omitted from Game of Thrones. He is introduced in A Clash of Kings as a former pit fighter from Meereen who has never lost a combat in the fighting pits. His body is covered with scars, each one marking a cut he deliberately allowed an opponent to make before killing them.
Strong Belwas travels with Arstan Whitebeard, the disguised Barristan Selmy, and joins Daenerys during her campaign against the slave cities. His size and confidence make him an intimidating fighter, but he is also comic, boastful, and fond of eating enormous quantities of food. He plays an important role in the liberation of Meereen and remains a loyal member of Daenerys’s household.
The television series redistributed some of his functions among other characters, especially Grey Worm, Daario Naharis, and Barristan Selmy. Grey Worm is also an important eunuch warrior, but he is a former Unsullied soldier rather than Strong Belwas.
Jorah Mormont is another frequent mix-up because he serves as Daenerys’s protector in both versions. However, Jorah is a disgraced Westerosi knight, not the huge pit fighter represented by Strong Belwas.
