Which ironborn lord nicknamed The Reader backs Asha Greyjoy at the book kingsmoot?
Answer
Rodrik Harlaw
Answer
Rodrik Harlaw
Rodrik Harlaw, nicknamed the Reader, backs Asha Greyjoy at the book kingsmoot. He is Lord of Harlaw and Lord of the Ten Towers, and Asha’s maternal uncle through Lady Alannys Harlaw.
Rodrik’s unusual love of books earns him his nickname because literacy and scholarship are uncommon among the ironborn. Before the kingsmoot, he gathers Asha’s supporters at Ten Towers and warns her that her claim is unlikely to succeed. He even offers to make her heir to Ten Towers if she abandons her bid for the Seastone Chair.
Asha refuses, and Rodrik attends the kingsmoot on Old Wyk. He is among the first to call her name, while Ser Harras Harlaw serves as one of her champions. Euron Greyjoy ultimately wins the assembly, making Rodrik’s support unsuccessful but unmistakable.
Harras Harlaw is an easy mix-up: he is Rodrik’s cousin and heir, and he also supports Asha, but he is not the Reader. Aeron Greyjoy calls the kingsmoot, rather than backing Asha.
