Which J.K. Rowling book was published in the United Kingdom on 26 June 1997?

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was published in the United Kingdom on 26 June 1997.

Bloomsbury released the novel as J.K. Rowling’s first published book. Its story follows Harry’s first year at Hogwarts, where he learns about his magical heritage, makes close friends, and begins investigating the mystery surrounding the Philosopher’s Stone.

The book’s title reflects the British name for the legendary substance traditionally associated with alchemy. The American edition changed the title to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, a choice made for marketing and perceived clarity for United States readers.

The novel became the starting point for six sequels, eight feature films, and a major global franchise. Its publication date is distinct from the film release date: the first film reached cinemas in 2001.
