Which James Bond film was the first to feature Desmond Llewelyn as Q?

The story behind the answer

From Russia with Love was the first James Bond film to feature Desmond Llewelyn as Q.

Llewelyn appeared as Major Boothroyd, better known as Q, in From Russia with Love, released in 1963. In Dr. No, the character was played by Peter Burton and was not yet presented as the long-running on-screen Q associated with Llewelyn. Llewelyn therefore began the defining version of the role in the second official Bond film.

His Q supplied Bond with specialist equipment, including the attaché case containing weapons, gold sovereigns, and other concealed devices. The character’s practical, often exasperated relationship with Bond became a recurring comic and technical element of the series.

Llewelyn played Q in 17 Bond films, making him one of the franchise’s most enduring performers. His final appearance was in The World Is Not Enough. John Cleese then briefly inherited the role.
