Which James Bond film was the first official 007 movie released after the Cold War ended?

The story behind the answer

GoldenEye was the first official James Bond film released after the Cold War ended.

The film premiered in 1995, several years after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Its story reflects the changed geopolitical environment: Bond confronts a former MI6 agent and a criminal operation exploiting financial systems and satellite technology rather than simply facing a Soviet power bloc.

GoldenEye was Pierce Brosnan’s debut as Bond and Martin Campbell’s first film in the series. Judi Dench became the first female M, giving the intelligence service a new on-screen leadership dynamic. The movie also updated Bond’s relationship with the post-Cold War world without abandoning the franchise’s classic espionage identity.

Licence to Kill, released in 1989, was the final official Bond film of the Cold War era. Tomorrow Never Dies followed GoldenEye in 1997, so it was not the first post-Cold War entry.
