Which James Bond film features 007 skiing off a mountain and opening a Union Jack parachute?

The story behind the answer

The James Bond film featuring 007 skiing off a mountain and opening a Union Jack parachute is The Spy Who Loved Me.

The spectacular sequence appears near the end of the film’s pre-title opening. Bond, played by Roger Moore, escapes pursuing Soviet agents across a snowy mountain. He skis over a cliff, apparently falling to his death, before deploying a parachute decorated with the Union Jack.

The stunt became one of the most recognisable images in the Bond series. It was performed by stuntman Rick Sylvester, who skied from Mount Asgard on Baffin Island in Canada. The production filmed the jump in difficult Arctic conditions, and the sequence was designed to establish the film’s large-scale action style immediately.

The Spy Who Loved Me was released in 1977 and was the third Bond film starring Moore. Its plot involves a British agent and a Soviet agent joining forces against shipping magnate Karl Stromberg.
