Which island is the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands?
Answer
Mallorca
Answer
Mallorca
Mallorca is the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands.
Mallorca, also spelled Majorca in English, lies in the western Mediterranean east of mainland Spain. It covers about 3,640 square kilometres and has Palma as its capital and largest city. Palma is also the capital of the Balearic Islands autonomous community.
The island combines the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range in the northwest with fertile plains and densely developed coastal areas. The Serra de Tramuntana became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011 for its cultural landscape shaped by agriculture and water management.
Mallorca is often confused with Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, the other principal Balearic Islands. Ibiza is especially associated with electronic dance music and nightlife, while Mallorca is the archipelago’s largest island by both area and population.
