Which island in New York Harbor is home to the Statue of Liberty?

The story behind the answer

Liberty Island in New York Harbor is home to the Statue of Liberty.

The island sits in Upper New York Bay and is a federal property administered by the National Park Service. France gave the statue to the United States, and it was dedicated in 1886. Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi designed the statue, while Gustave Eiffel helped engineer its internal framework.

Liberty Island was formerly called Bedloe’s Island until its official name changed in 1956. Ellis Island lies nearby and is associated with immigration processing, but it does not contain the statue. Liberty Island is accessible by ferry from New York and New Jersey.
