Which island is connected to mainland Denmark by the Great Belt Bridge and contains Copenhagen?

The story behind the answer

Zealand is the Danish island that contains Copenhagen and is connected to Funen by the Great Belt Bridge and tunnel system.

Copenhagen occupies Zealand’s eastern coast and is Denmark’s capital and largest urban area. The island is also linked to Sweden by the Øresund Bridge, which connects Copenhagen with Malmö across the Øresund strait.

The Great Belt Fixed Link crosses between Zealand and Funen. It consists of a road-and-rail bridge on the eastern section, a tunnel for rail traffic, and the East Bridge, one of the world’s major suspension bridges.

Zealand is sometimes confused with New Zealand because of the shared English name. Denmark’s Zealand is called Sjælland in Danish and lies in the Baltic Sea region of northern Europe.
