Which is the only Doors album to feature a horn section?

The story behind the answer

The Soft Parade is the only Doors album to feature a horn section. Released in 1969, the band’s fourth studio album expanded its usual psychedelic-rock sound with brass, strings, and other orchestral colors.

Producer Paul A. Rothchild encouraged the Doors to pursue a fuller, more ambitious arrangement style. Paul Harris created the orchestral arrangements, while jazz and studio musicians contributed instruments including saxophone, trombone, and English horn. Curtis Amy’s saxophone solo on “Touch Me” is one of the album’s most prominent horn moments.

The experiment divided listeners because the added instrumentation made the album sound less raw than the Doors’ earlier records. The horns are especially noticeable on “Tell All the People,” “Touch Me,” “Runnin’ Blue,” and “Wishful Sinful.” Later reissues also included “Doors only” mixes that remove the orchestral arrangements, which can cause confusion when comparing versions of the album.
