Which Indian domestic T20 league was founded by the BCCI in 2007?

The story behind the answer

The Indian domestic T20 league founded by the BCCI in 2007 was the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The BCCI formally launched the IPL on 13 September 2007, during the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 tournament. It was designed as a franchise-based Twenty20 competition, with city-linked teams, player auctions and a commercially focused league structure.

Although founded in 2007, the first IPL season was played in 2008. Eight franchises took part in that inaugural edition, which began on 18 April 2008. Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings in the final on 1 June, winning a match decided on the last ball.

A common mix-up is confusing the IPL’s founding year with its first playing season. The league was announced and organized in 2007, while competitive matches began in 2008. Other options belong to different national or regional competitions: the Big Bash League is Australian, the Pakistan Super League began later, and the Lanka Premier League is Sri Lankan.
