Which Houston music group did Beyoncé co-found as a child?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé co-founded the Houston music group Girl’s Tyme as a child.

Girl’s Tyme formed in Houston in 1990 and included Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and Támar Davis at different stages. The group developed through local performances and talent competitions while its members were still young.

Girl’s Tyme appeared on the television talent show Star Search in 1993. Although the group did not win, the experience helped expose its members to a national audience and became part of Beyoncé’s early career story.

The group later changed its name and lineup. After management changes and auditions, it evolved into Destiny’s Child, which became one of the best-selling female groups in music history. Girl’s Tyme is therefore not the same name as Destiny’s Child, though it was the group’s early predecessor.
