Which Hogwarts house does J.K. Rowling associate with Harry Potter?
Answer
Gryffindor
Answer
Gryffindor
J.K. Rowling places Harry Potter in Gryffindor house at Hogwarts.
Harry is sorted into Gryffindor during the Sorting Ceremony in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The house is associated with courage, bravery and nerve, and its emblem is a lion. Harry joins Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger there, while his principal school rival, Draco Malfoy, is sorted into Slytherin.
Hogwarts has four houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Each is named after one of the school’s founders. The Sorting Hat considers a student’s qualities and, in Harry’s case, his own preference also matters because he strongly does not want Slytherin.
Rowling has said that Gryffindor is her own Hogwarts house as well. This does not mean the house is universally the “best”; the books give important characters and virtues to all four houses. Gryffindor is simply the house most closely connected with Harry’s school journey.
