Which 2008 J.K. Rowling book collects stories from the wizarding world?

The story behind the answer

The Tales of Beedle the Bard is J.K. Rowling’s 2008 collection of wizarding-world stories.

The book is presented as a collection of five fairy tales known to witches and wizards. In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Hermione receives a copy from Albus Dumbledore and uses it to help understand the legend of the Deathly Hallows. The collection therefore functions both as a companion book and as part of the final novel’s plot.

The stories include “The Tale of the Three Brothers,” which explains the three magical objects at the center of the Deathly Hallows legend. Rowling wrote and illustrated the original limited-edition manuscript, with proceeds benefiting the Children’s High Level Group, later known as Lumos.
