Which heavy metal musician released the song 'Crazy Train'?

The story behind the answer

Ozzy Osbourne released the heavy metal song “Crazy Train.” It was his debut solo single, issued in 1980 as part of his first solo album, Blizzard of Ozz, after his departure from Black Sabbath.

The song was written by Osbourne with guitarist Randy Rhoads and bassist Bob Daisley. Rhoads’ instantly recognizable guitar work, including the celebrated solo, helped make “Crazy Train” one of the defining recordings of Osbourne’s solo career. Its lyrics reflect Cold War-era anxiety and fears of global destruction, giving the song a darker meaning beneath its energetic riff.

A common mix-up is crediting the track entirely to Rhoads because of his famous guitar parts. He was crucial to its composition and sound, but Osbourne is the recording’s lead vocalist and credited artist. “Crazy Train” is therefore not a Black Sabbath song, even though Osbourne had previously become famous as Black Sabbath’s singer. The track remains one of the best-known introductions to his solo work.
