Which gymnast is the Produnova vault named after?

The Produnova vault is named after Russian gymnast Yelena Produnova. Its formal description is a handspring forward onto the vaulting table followed by a tucked double salto forward, making it one of the most difficult vaults in women's artistic gymnastics.

Produnova was the first woman to complete the skill successfully in competition, doing so in 1999. Her coach, Leonid Arkayev, reportedly challenged her to attempt the vault, which demands exceptional forward rotation and precise control during the landing.

The vault is often confused with other named skills, including the Amanar and Tsukahara variants, but those use different entries or rotations. The Produnova's signature feature is the forward handspring entry combined with two tucked forward somersaults. Because an under-rotated landing can be dangerous, relatively few women have performed it successfully in major competition. Its difficulty value has also changed across different editions of the Code of Points.
