Who won men's trampoline gold when the event debuted at Sydney 2000?
Answer
Alexander Moskalenko
Answer
Alexander Moskalenko
Alexander Moskalenko won men’s trampoline gold when the event debuted at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Representing Russia, he became the first Olympic champion in men’s individual trampoline.
The competition took place on September 23, 2000, at the Sydney SuperDome. Moskalenko scored 69.00 points in the final, finishing ahead of Australia’s Ji Wallace, who won silver, and Canada’s Mathieu Turgeon, who took bronze. Trampoline was added to the Olympic gymnastics programme for the first time in Sydney, with both men’s and women’s individual events.
Moskalenko’s victory was especially notable because he had come out of retirement after learning that trampoline would become an Olympic sport. He was already one of the discipline’s leading figures, having won numerous world titles. A spelling variation sometimes appears in records: “Aleksandr Moskalenko” is also used, but Alexander Moskalenko identifies the same athlete.
