The group formed in Houston in the 1990s and became one of the best-selling female groups in music history. Its best-known final lineup consisted of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. Earlier lineups included other members, including LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett.

Destiny’s Child scored major hits such as “Say My Name,” “Survivor,” and “Bootylicious.” The group’s polished vocal harmonies, coordinated performances, and themes of independence helped establish Beyoncé as a prominent performer before her solo debut.

The group went on hiatus after the release of its 2004 compilation album Destiny Fulfilled... and Love. Beyoncé, Rowland, and Williams reunited for selected performances, but their individual careers remained separate. The group is not the same act as TLC or the later all-female group Fifth Harmony.
