Which group did Beyoncé join that later became known as Destiny’s Child?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé joined the Houston girl group Girl’s Tyme, which later became Destiny’s Child.

Girl’s Tyme formed in Houston in 1990 and included Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and Támar Davis at one stage. The group appeared on the television talent show Star Search in 1993, although it did not win.

After management and lineup changes, the group signed with Columbia Records and adopted the name Destiny’s Child. Its breakthrough came with the late-1990s singles “No, No, No” and “Say My Name.”

The apostrophe in Girl’s Tyme is part of the group’s commonly documented name. It should not be confused with Destiny’s Child, which is the later and much more famous name of the act.
