Which Grand Slam did Djokovic complete to achieve a Career Grand Slam?
Answer
French Open
Answer
French Open
Djokovic completed a Career Grand Slam by winning the French Open. He achieved the feat in 2016, defeating Andy Murray in the final at Roland-Garros in Paris.
Before that victory, Djokovic had already won the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and US Open. The French Open was the missing major, and it had proved particularly difficult because it is played on clay, Rafael Nadal’s strongest surface. Djokovic had reached the French Open final in 2012, 2014, and 2015, but lost each time—twice to Nadal and once to Stan Wawrinka.
His 2016 triumph made him only the eighth man in tennis history to complete the traditional Career Grand Slam in singles. It also made him the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all four major titles simultaneously, although the titles were won across different calendar periods. Djokovic later won the French Open again in 2021 and 2023. The achievement is different from a calendar-year Grand Slam, which requires winning all four majors in the same year.
